Doth Thou Curse Bare Upon The Land Once More Little Bird? Doth Thou

Chapter 1 – Till Death Do Us Part

A dark, hooded figure with the happy clown mask who only calls himself “Her Personal Tormentor” stood outside Little Bird’s ‘Cage’ once more in his usual merry mocking tune, “Little Bird, Little Bird, Stuck in your cage”. The Tormentor laughed in his usual, sick and twisted manor, “Why do you wish to leave so soon? Did you not promise to be with me, for better or for worse? In sickness and in health?” With the last question the Tormentor drew his face close to his Little Bird who could only pull her face away in a contorted mixture of agony, disgust and sorrow. The Tormentor’s voice changed to show his different emotion of anger as he drew his face closer once more, “Well, I’ll make sure you can’t leave here…”

“Till death do us part.” The Tormentor and his Little Bird whispered in unison, with that the Tormentor’s voice changed once more to his usual twisted, maniacal tone and laughed off into the dark cavern he calls a corridor. “Oh and one last thing,” He Echoed one last sentence to deal the final blow to his Little Bird, “your precious ‘Glynn’ isn’t coming for you, I’ve made sure of that”.

Little Bird sobbed as she finally broke down, tears dropping from her face into the cold and dark stone where she is meant to lay her head, her empty back looking as if something or someone belongs there, as she still heard the laugh of evil from the deepest depths of the nocturnal hell. Curling into a ball with her side laying across the floor she only repeated one name, “Glynn”.

His name was silently echoed in the deepest caverns of his thoughts, “Glynn,” said the darkness softly as he wondered towards the source of the sound. Growing louder and louder with each passing moment. “Glynn,” said the voice once more, he definitely recognized the voice this time but he couldn’t remember the name of its owner. “GLYNN!” Yelled his younger sister in a voice entirely unlike the one he heard in his dream, “It’s time for breakfast Glynn!” He slowly awakened, opening one eye before the other to see a youthful brunette’s face covering his entire vision.

“I get it Molly, I get it. Tell ma I’ll be down in five minutes.” Mumbled Glynn, in a groggy and unconvincing tone, before losing the battle to stay awake and gradually closing his eyes. A sound of feet stomping into the kitchen and a conversation about ‘The Bucket’ led Glynn to once more open his eyes as little as possible when suddenly a surge of cold traveled along his body originating from his face caused him to curse in all manner of colourful language before he sprung out of bed and started chasing his little sister all around the thatch roofed hut.

“All right, all right. Settle down little ones, you’ll be wanting something to eat with all of that energy you’ve got.” Ma chuckled, her tone surprisingly cheerful at the sight of watching her children throttle each other half to death. The two siblings settled down and sat down at the oak-root table that rooted it’s self in the middle of the house, three beautiful, harsh yet soft chairs were occupied around its parent. One chair left lonely, without a companion or master yet had one once upon a time, longing to be used once more. Glynn was caught looking helplessly at the seat that someone familiar to him once had, checked himself and smiled to both Molly, oblivious to the world, then Ma who could only return an empty smile while her face hid her true emotions which lay underneath.

“So, you’ll be going to Roundhollow today?” asked Ma as she watched her son pack his belongings, she knew the answer. They all did. It was his dream to be an adventurer; they were the people who cleared the Endless Dungeon, gained gold, fame and popularity beyond belief. Everyone wanted to be an adventurer and this year the trial was at Roundhollow, a branch of the adventurers guild less than a month away.

“Aye, if everything goes well I won’t be here for a while. If not, I’ll tell Da you said hi.” He grimaced at the thought of dying but he knew it was an occupational hazard that comes with the dream job, he tightened his sack full of everything he needed to survive on the road for the next 3 weeks to Roundhollow including rations of his favorite stone-baked scones that Ma only made on special occasions. He left for the door and looked to both of his family members for one last goodbye. “Ta Ma, Molly. Thanks for everything you’ve done.” Said Glynn, not bearing to look at his Ma while he gave both of them the longest and hardest hug he ever could.

“You take care now.” Said Ma, in that way only a mother could use to try and convince them to stay.

“Aye ma, will do.” He could only reply.

A look of worry briefly swept over Ma’s face. “I won’t let you travel home on a horse drawn carriage or in pieces.”

“Aye ma, will do.”

“Please just, come back safe.”

“Aye ma, will do.” He whispered softly, very softly. His mother, still in tears, released him from her firm hug and he looked over to Molly, who was in tears. “Hey there Shorty,” he received a hard kick to his shins causing him to over-dramatically fall to the ground, finally receiving a laugh he stood up and was tackled to the ground once more as his sister hugged him.

“You’ll bring back presents right?” asked the little one in hope.

“Aye, you’ll even get a sword of your own eh?” This received a look from his mother that could pierce the thickest shield, which he politely ignored.

“Really?” the look in her eyes was akin to a small child in wonderland.

He gave a small chuckle, “Only if Ma doesn’t stop me.”
